Job Description:
The Scribe is a youth leadership position within a Scouts BSA troop. They are responsible for keeping accurate records of troop meetings and events, as well as maintaining the troop’s roster and other important documents. The Scribe plays a crucial role in helping to ensure that the troop is well-organized and effective. One of the key responsibilities of the Scribe is to keep accurate records of troop meetings and events. This includes recording attendance, taking notes on important discussions and decisions, and documenting any action items or follow-up tasks. Another important role of the Scribe is to maintain the troop’s roster and other important documents. This includes keeping track of contact information for troop members and leaders, maintaining records of awards and achievements, and ensuring that all necessary paperwork is filed in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Appointed by Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader with Scoutmaster approval
Tenderfoot Rank or higher (not a BSA requirement)
May not serve three consecutive terms
Reports to:
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
Arrive 5 minutes before the start of troop and PLC meetings.
Distribute copies of PLC minutes to PLC members and adult leaders in a timely manner.
Record attendance at all troop meetings, outings, and other activities.
Record advancement on troop advancement chart.
Share records with the troop committee secretary and advancement chair.
Set a good example.
Wear the field uniform (class A) correctly to all regular troop meetings and religious services.
Wear the activity uniform (class B t-shirt) to all outings and other troop activities.
Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
Show Scout spirit.
